Yathra — Bumthang wool weave
Bumthangfrom $30–$400
Thick sheep-wool fabric from Bumthang — used for jackets, blankets and bags.
About
Yathra is a coarse, warm wool fabric woven exclusively in the Bumthang valley. Traditionally used to make the kishuthara jacket, today it's sold as scarves, bags, table runners and blankets.
Genuine Yathra is identifiable by its earthy dyes (from rhubarb root, walnut, madder) and slight irregularities from hand-looming. Machine copies from Nepal flood the tourist market — buy only from Bumthang-based workshops.
