About Phobjikha
Phobjikha (also called Gangtey) is a wide glacial valley at 2,900m in central Bhutan. It's one of the most ecologically important sites in the country: every winter (Nov-Mar) around 300 endangered black-necked cranes migrate here from Tibet to roost.
The valley is car-free in the core conservation zone and has no electricity in many homestays — wood stoves, candles, and starry nights. It's a favourite for slow-travel, yoga and meditation travelers. Gangtey Goemba monastery sits above the valley.
